CANCELATIONS & MAKE-UP POLICY
Your time slot is reserved for YOU! To gain the most out of these musical lessons it is important to show up regularly and on time for all lessons. My schedule is completely full and I am unable to fill other students into last minute cancellations. It is understandable that sometimes emergencies and illnesses arise unexpectedly. So, except for those occasions, ANY make-up lessons require a minimum of 48 hours notice.

-
No-shows: still charged; no make-up lesson
-
Cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice (except for sickness or emergency): still charged; no make-up lesson
-
Cancel with 48 hours or more notice: eligible for a make-up lesson in person or online, subject to my availability (This may also take the form of doubling another week’s lesson or extending several lessons. Or the absent student’s lesson time may be given to another family member.) If you choose to not do a make-up lesson, no money will be refunded.
-
Teacher Cancellations: If I need to cancel a lesson, I will offer to reschedule, or take it out of the next month’s payment.
-
Weather-related Cancellations: My studio stays open in spite of weather conditions or school closings. If you are unable or do not wish to travel in certain conditions, we can do an online lesson.
-
Holidays: I teach on all holidays except Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s.
LESSON PROTOCOL FOR IN-PERSON LESSONS AT MY HOME
-
PLEASE DO NOT RING DOORBELL OR KNOCK.
-
At your lesson time, NOT BEFORE, enter the house and then enter the studio, which is the first door up the stairs on the right. I make every effort to start each lesson on time. If another student is still in the studio, don’t worry. Just come on in- AS LONG AS IT IS YOUR LESSON TIME. It is very disruptive to the lesson in progress if you enter even a minute early. Thank you!
-
Parents may drop off student(s) or observe lessons. Often a lesson runs more smoothly without the parent present. Please consider the dynamic between you and your child when making your decision.
-
Piano students’ hands must be clean and fingernails clipped.
-
If you think you (if you are the student) or your child may be contagious with any type of illness, please cancel the lesson and I will try to reschedule, or we can do a virtual lesson.
-
If you are running late, please text me! I will let you know if it can still work! If a student arrives to a lesson anywhere from 1 to 15 minutes late, I will still teach them for the remaining time that was planned. However, if a student does not text/call and does not show up within the first 15 minutes of the scheduled lesson time, I will assume the student is a no-show and that lesson will be cancelled due to un-notified absence.
-
Above all else, cancellations and late arrivals mean that the student is missing out on important learning time! A student will not be able to make as much progress when lessons are sporadic or shortened. Help me make this time as meaningful as possible for your benefit!
LESSON PROTOCOL FOR ONLINE LESSONS
-
Zoom is preferred because of the screen sharing and whiteboard features, but I can also use FaceTime and FaceBook messenger.
-
Voice students must have access to a second device for karaoke tracks and the Appcompanist app.
HOME PRACTICE
The purpose of my lesson time with you or your student is to prepare you and/or them for productive, self-directed practice IN BETWEEN lessons. At home is where the real progress happens.
-
Regular practice and supportive parents are essential
-
Parents should help schedule and oversee home practicing
-
Students are expected to practice at least 5 days a week
-
Younger children (6 and under) should practice a minimum of 15 minutes a day, but 30 minutes a day is highly recommended for all students. The time spent in practicing is important, but more important is to have goals and strategies. Mindless repetition will not achieve much! Check on your student to see that they are working toward a specific goal- not just running through the entire piece over and over. They should focus on the part(s) of their pieces (specific measures) with which they are struggling.
PERFORMANCES
-
Summer or Fall Virtual Recital
-
Winter Recital in December held at Trinity Church on Olio Rd. in Fishers, IN, as well as virtually.
-
Spring Recital in June held at Trinity Church on Olio Rd. in Fishers, IN, as well as virtually.
-
Recital participation is not mandatory, however I strongly encourage every student to perform. Recitals help students to gain confidence in performing, and give them the unique experience to sing and play in ways they cannot at school or in other areas. It also gives us a goal to work toward in our lessons.
